Overview
This RFC proposes to drop 32-bit builds for Windows for the next major release of MapGuide Open Source.
Motivation
Most computers today run on 64-bit operating systems. All Windows Servers today (that one would deploy MapGuide into a production window environment) are only available in 64-bit only.
Given these factors, there is very little reason to keep releasing builds of MapGuide Open Source for 32-bit windows.
Proposed Solution
For MapGuide Open Source 3.3, we will only release an installer and InstantSetup bundle for 64-bit Windows only.
We will remove all related 32-bit installation artifacts from the windows installer project.
Implications
This only affects the Windows builds. For Linux, we will still produce 32-bit and 64-bit releases as MapGuide on 64-bit Linux still needs more battle testing before we at a level of confidence where we can drop 32-bit releases for Linux as well.
We will still produce 32-bit windows releases for any future MapGuide Open Source 3.1.x releases
