PostGIS Install Guide
The following is a guideline to install PostGIS onto most UNIX-like systems from either prebuilt packages (where maintained) or source.
PostGIS 2.1 (still in development)
No PostGIS 2.1 guides available yet, but there are currently no new dependencies either except to take full advantage of new interrupt feature you need GEOS 3.4.0+
For now just follow the 2.1 guides (from source versions)
PostGIS 2.0
- Debian 6.0 (squeeze) - uses PostgreSQL 8.4
- Debian 7.0 (wheezy) - uses PostgreSQL 9.1
- Fedora 16 (Verne)
- Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (lucid) - uses PostgreSQL 8.4
- Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) - uses PostgreSQL 9.1
- Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) - uses PostgreSQL 9.1
- Windows both 32-bit and 64-bit (same step for all versions of PostgreSQL)
PostGIS 1.5
- RHEL / Fedora / CentOS:
- Debian 6.0 (squeeze) - uses PostgreSQL 8.4
- Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (lucid) - uses PostgreSQL 8.4
- Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) - uses PostgreSQL 9.1
PostGIS 1.4
- Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (lucid) - uses PostgreSQL 8.4
