lists.osgeo.org: install htdig

(Our) users often ask how to search the GRASS lists. The same applies to any OSGeo list. Since we should not exclusively depend on external services (some of them don't even support order by time stamp!) we may have "htdig" or likewise installed.

Could this be done on the list server?

Just a hint, I understand that it doesn't solve this problem, but I search GDAL list using Google:

I made a quick try and discovered:

• building htdig from source requires a c++ compiler which we seem to lack on osgeo1.
• I have no idea where to start with rpms.

I'm bailing and turning this back over to the group.

ok, another attempt.

"sudo up2date htdig" seems to have installed things, not working to setup.

setup /etc/htdig/htdig.conf to index /var/lib/mailman/archives/public

rundig is now running...

Nabble seems to have become the default mailing list search, which we have been pointing users to for years. Do we really want to continue maintaining htdig, or is nabble suffient?

The GRASS archives starts in 1991, nabble only recently. OK, low priority at most.
