unable to change highlighted event on home page to foss4g

Description

Or indeed edit the home page content at all, perhaps due to recent update (https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo/ticket/2695).

Previously the home page presented with boxes to fill in for the different columns ("Helping you succeed", etc...). And you could select the event to be highlighted from the list of upcoming events.

@jive,

I'm thinking maybe I missed updating the plugins and the plugins needed to be updated as well.

I'm not quite sure what I should be seeing though. I just updated it to 5.9.2 and updated all the plugins. Now when I go to edit, I see this:

Before I think that section was cut off.

Thanks, that is more what I was expecting to see.

Reading down the page the events - are now empty!

And the highlighted event is foss4g 2021 :)

I do not see those options, perhaps you are taking a screen snap from staging?

comment:5 by robe, 3 years ago

I double-checked production, the screen shot above is what I see on the Info tab. The highlight tab however doesn't include a drop down for page where as in staging it does have a drop down. I'm assuming this is just an intentional difference because even after upgrading staging to 5.9.2, I still see the drop down.

For comparing - staging highlight tab looks like this:

The Highlight tab though doesn't seem to allow you to pick a page on production. production highlight tab below:

@jive,

FWIW last time I saw a broken behavior when upgrading wordpress it was caused by cached javascript files on my local browser. Doing a force page load or clear cache reload fixed the issue. If you are not seeing the same thing as I see above, I suggest clearing your browser cache. If you still don't see the above, you might have a browser plugin blocking some javascript from loading.

Checking:

  • So the homepage now shows "FOSS4G 2022 Firenze (Italy)" under events - as the only upcoming event (I hope we have more?)
  • The homepage highlighted event is still FOSS4G SotM Oceania 2021.

Editing homepage:

  • I still do not see any options to do anything

Editing homepage on staging:

  • tab header: I can see options to edit title, subtitle, call-2-actions
  • tab intro: description, image, and more ...
  • tab highlight: has "FOSS4G 2021 September 27th to October 2nd 2021", so that is good I can change it

So what is different about staging?

You have some time to meet today?

I see both sections in staging and production. So I think I'm still missing something here.

comment:9 by robe, 3 years ago

I should add I did upgrade staging to same wordpress version as production So differences are

1) Different data 2) I can't upgrade Advanced Custom Fields PRO on staging since it doesn't have a license so it is at Version 5.8.9 where as production is at 5.12.1 (there is a 5.12.2 update I haven't installed yet which I'll do later this weekend with next patch update of wordpress).

I don't really notice much of a difference between the two aside from the data differences. If it is the ACF difference you are seeing, that could easily cause the cache issue I was talking about above that would be cleared with clearing your browser cache.

Oh interesting, so we are seeing different things?

I will try clearing my browser cache.

Cleared cache, same result. Tried a complete different browser, same result.

comment:12 by robe, 3 years ago

If you have time to meet today or tomorrow maybe we can go over to make sure we are talking about the same thing.

tomorrow is good, I expect you are asleep now.

comment:14 by robe, 3 years ago

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

All set but still mysterious. Jody and I were able to resolve the issue. Had something to do with permissions is our guess.

To fix I unchecked the Administrator permissions on Homepage and then saved and then rechecked. Then miraculously Jody was able to edit too.

Why he couldn't before and I was able to when we both had administrator role is puzzling.
