ERDAS updated its ecw SDK causing applications to crash when it comes to ECW imagery

Description

In the past hours ERDAS updated its ecw SDK:

new installer name

new installer password (that is always the same)

new size of the redistributable dlls

This causes -for example- QGIS to crash:

install qgis/osgeo4w

add the gdal-ecw connector

copy the redistributable libraries to system32

try add a ecw image -> crash

If the dlls are replaced with the ones available until a couple of days go, no problems.

Confirmed QGIS and GDAL utilities crash with latest SDK ECWJP2SDKSetup_RO_20110303.exe. Old SDK is not available anymore

Status: new → closed

Now the ERDAS ECW/JP2 SDK Desktop Read-Only Version 4.1 (ECWJP2SDKSetup_RO_20100920.exe), needed by gdal-ecw 1.8 plugin, is again available on ERDAS web site at the following URLs:

​http://www.erdas.com/products/ecw/erdasecwjpeg2000sdk/Downloads.aspx for registered ERDAS users

​http://downloads.erdas.com/reqdownload.aspx?guid=dff76d5e-8c03-4d3d-a1df-7c1422a6e1e9 for not registered users

having again available for download the 4.1 version does not solves the crashes with the latest versions of the sdk.
