This is a known issue for GeoNode working with a vanilla GeoServer (without Geonode extensions) like the setup we have in OSGeoLive. It is going to be fixed upstream. https://github.com/GeoNode/geonode/issues/923

Resolution: wontfix
Status: newclosed

This error message is still shown in 2.6, but it can be ignored.

I updated the docs with a note about this, the new quickstart works fine.

This error is due to the fact that we do not use the GeoNode-specific GeoServer build.
