functions returning geometries not showing up in geometry_columns

Description
Tables and views are automatically displayed in the new geometry_columns view, but functions outputting a geometry column/type do not. I would like to have an option to manually add records to the geometry_columns view (using an extra table e.g. geometry_columns_inc). Of course I just hacked one in, but that would be less nice.

I have no idea what this is unless it relates to the deeper inspection on views. Don't like having a side line table. Dismising
