Mike,
I'm pushing this. Feel free to patch if you feel the need. I personally don't use ST_MemCollect/ST_MemUnion these days now that ST_Collect/ST_Union performance has so much improved since 1.3 days so don't see a pressing issue to document it and would much in fact (get rid of them and make them legacy functions).
