wild guess. Could it be a difference in proj? Winnie is running 4.8.0. I think Debbie is running 4.7.1.
Could be a misconfiguration of proj files on my part since I think one of the instances is passing with flying colors and the newer ones are not.

Only change I see involving boxes is : http://trac.osgeo.org/postgis/changeset/10335/trunk/liblwgeom/g_box.c
Could any of those have caused this. I'll test on my windows 7 against 9.2 to see if I run into the same issue.

well this is might annoying. The only pg I'm not setup for building on my windows 7 is 9.2x32.
I ran the tests against old mingw for (9.0x32,9.1x32) and my ming64 chain for 9.2.0x54.
None of them fail on this. So I'm left scratching my head if this is a 9.2.1 x 32 issue or some randomness of Windows 2003x64 (8 core) (which winnie runs on) compared to windows 7x64 or some really fluky memory thing that the events are always right on this box to hit.

Hmm well I tried the binaries built by winnie for 9.2x32 on my windows 7 and get the same bizarre answer. The query that is giving the wrong answer is:

Could have brought on this sudden bizzarness is a very troubling mystery. Could be a bug in 9.2x32 (get the same bizarre answer under edb 9.2x32 and mingw64-w32 9.2x32

I'm still really frustrated with this failure. I'm tempted to remove this test for now as it's causing me serious problems being able to regress test my postgresql 9.2 32-bit.
Why on earth are we mixing dimensions anyway? These operations should really be throwing an error and be illegal instead of returning anything. we've got 2d and 3D geometries mixed in there and asking for a 3D extent. WTF does that mean?
My only guess as to what could be causing this problem is the change to using constants as asking the 3D extent even on my 64-bit gives stupid answers for the Z max for something like below even in lower versions
SELECT ST_3DExtent(ST_Point(i,j)) FROM generate_series(1,10) as i cross join generate_series(11,20) As j;

strk -- whatever it is, it only exhibits itself on windows PostgreSQL 9.2 32-bit (none of the other windows variants I have show this, and no one else has the environment to trigger this). So you being a windows hater shouldn't care :)

The question is a stupid one to begin with because ST_3DExtent gives bogus answers for the Z coordinate for any 2D geometry and even in 2.0.1 has. For example on my 64-bit 2.0.1 9.2 install I get
