Unable to install postgresql-8.3.3-1 into WindowsXP, an installer error

Description

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  1. Download postgresql-8.3.3-1.zip for Windows
  2. Extract the files into a directory
  3. Run postgresql-8.3.msi

The installer hangs with the three msiexec.exe processes running The version tested postgresql-8.3.3 and postgresql-8.3.2 on WindowsXP Professional 32 bit with all updates installed.

The installer log file is attached.

This is actually a PostgreSQL rather than a PostGIS issue - so please re-file with the PostgreSQL project.

Note that one common mistake is that the PostgreSQL MSI will not install over remote desktop unless you use the /console command line option.
