2.0.0beta5SVN tarball more the twice as big as beta4 ?

Beta4 official was 5.7MB: ​http://postgis.org/download/postgis-2.0.0beta4.tar.gz

What happened ?

beta5 is not comparable, yet. Compare beta4:

  • processed by make_dist.sh, many files removed

  • SVN snapshot, not processed by make_dist.sh, so has many extra files, and no postgis_svn_revision.h (#1716)

The file size differences are in the doc/html directory.

Why is the download URL for beta4 not visible at ​http://postgis.refractions.net/download/? Only the SVN snapshots are visible. I think some folks are testing the wrong tar.gz files.

I think its because it contains the PDF. I think I already complained about this and might have a ticket somewhere hanging around that the pdf should never be in the tar ball since its readily available on the doc page.

Regarding snapshot on page that page has that section autogenerated. I think it would be way too muchfor pramsey to have to edit that page while he's twitting.

I would like to see an rc1 on that page once we have reduced the bugs we really plan to fix in 2.0.0 to 0. I'm moving this to Management since its not just a 2.0.0 issue.

The RC1 release that Paul did was in line with Beta4, in the 5MB range. Paul also put a link to RC1 on the the download page, and I posted a news item to get it on the front page.
